Lying 2097m above sea level and a sub-alpine climate, travellers to Dullstroom can expect rapid weather changes and a misty atmosphere. While weather is known to be generally cool and crisp, experiencing ‘four seasons in one day’ is common. Be prepared for any eventuality in this fickle town by packing a range of different clothes. Waterbirds are the primary suspects, which cluster around the innumerable lakes and dams in the area. Species include herons, Egyptian Geese, Kingfishers, Sacred Ibis’ and Spurwing Geese. Open grassland species include pipits, cranes, and francolin, while birds of prey most often glimpsed include snake eagles, fish eagles and the gorgeous Secretary Birds.
